물리학과 김현정 교수가 과학기술분야 최상위 의사결정기구인 국가과학기술자문회의의 3기 심의위원으로 위촉되었다. 국가과학기술자문회의는 대통령을 의장으로 하는 기구로, 과학기술 중장기 정책 및 연구개발(R&D) 예산 배분 심의와 국가 과학기술 방향 자문 기능을 담당한다. 김현정 교수는 지난 2023년 11월에 2기 심의위원으로 위촉된 이후, 이번에 연임되었다.

국가과학기술자문회의는 1989년 과학기술 분야 최상위 의사결정 기구로 출범하엿으며, 국가과학기술의 혁신과 정보 및 인력의 개발을 위한 과학기술 발전 전략 및 주요 정책방향과 국가과학기술 분야의 제도 개선 및 정책 등에 관한 사항을 자문하며, 국민과 연구 현장을 위한 정책과 예산을 심의하는 중요한 역할을 수행하고 있다. 과학기술 주요 정책·과학기술 혁신 및 산업화 관련 인력정책·지역기술혁신정책에 대한 조정, 연구개발 계획 및 사업에 대한 조정, 연구개발 예산의 운영 등에 관한 사항을 심의한다.

Professor Kim Hyun-jung from the Department of Physics has been reappointed as a third-term deliberating member of the Presidential Advisory Council on Science ＆ Technology, the highest-level decision-making organization in the field of science and technology. This council, chaired by the president of Korea, is responsible for reviewing mid- to long-term science and technology policies, allocating R&D budgets, and advising on the future path of national science and technology. Professor Kim was initially appointed as a second-term deliberating member in November 2023.

Established in 1989, the Presidential Advisory Council on Science ＆ Technology serves as the top decision-making organization in the field of science and technology. It plays a crucial role in advising on strategies and key policies for the advancement of science and technology, institutional improvements, and the development of information and human resources. The council also deliberates on policies and budget matters aimed at benefiting the public and research communities. Its responsibilities include coordination of major science and technology policies, innovation and industrialization-related human-resource policies, regional technology-innovation strategies, R&D project planning and management, and the operation of R&D budgets.
